What actually happens

Nobody sits and watches. Every child is doing something from about four minutes in.

  1. We turn up early

An hour before your start time we are in, covering tables, hanging the backdrop and setting out the benches. You carry on with the sausage rolls.

  2. They get dressed

Cloaks, hats, lab coats, wings, whatever the party calls for. Each child picks a wand. This bit takes about ten minutes and is very loud.

  3. They make something

Potions that froth over, slime that stretches across the table, spells cast at the apothecary shelf. Roughly an hour of it, with a sit-down in the middle.

  4. They take it home

Everyone bottles what they made and decorates a bag to carry it in. Then we clear the lot away and you get your room back.

You need a room and a cake. We do the rest.

That is genuinely the list. Everything else arrives in the back of the car: tables covers, cauldrons, ingredients, costumes, wands, backdrops, lighting, bottles, bags, pens.

  • Table space for the number of children, and a plug socket
  • Somewhere to park near the door, if you can manage it
  • A grown-up in the room. We run it, you do not have to help

One honest warning: it gets messy. That is rather the point. We bring covers for the tables and the floor, and we take the mess away with us, but if the hall has a no-glitter rule you should tell us before we arrive rather than after.

Sharon Trevethan and Sharon Vincent, who run Wiz Parties

Two Sharons and a lot of cauldrons

Sharon Trevethan and Sharon Vincent have been running events together since 2016. Sharon Trevethan teaches the wizard sessions as Enchantress Eleana and holds an enhanced DBS. We carry £5 million public liability.

We built the potion room ourselves, shelf by shelf, over a couple of years above the chocolate shop on the Barbican. Now the whole thing packs into a car and comes to you instead.

Where we come

Plymouth out to Exeter and Exmouth, across to Torbay, down through the South Hams and over the Tamar into Cornwall. Travel is included everywhere on this list.

Things people ask before they book

How much space do we need?

Enough table for the children to stand or sit round, and room for them to move about. A standard village hall is more space than we need. A decent-sized front room works for eight. If you are not sure, send us a photo and we will tell you straight.

What if we have more than ten children?

Fine. It is £15 for each child over ten. Past about sixteen we would rather bring a third pair of hands, so mention the number when you book and we will sort it.

Do you do the food and the balloons too?

No. We do the ninety minutes and we do it properly. Food, cake, balloons and party bags for the sweets are yours. Every child does go home with the thing they made, in a bag they decorated, so the party bag is half done for you.

How far ahead should we book?

Weekend mornings in term time go first, often six to eight weeks out. Plymouth we can sometimes do at a fortnight's notice. Exeter and Exmouth need longer because we only take one party a day at that distance.

Are you insured and DBS checked?

Yes to both. £5 million public liability, and Sharon Trevethan holds an enhanced DBS. Ask and we will send you the certificates before you pay a penny.

Got a date in mind?

Tell us the date, the ages and roughly how many, and we will come back to you the same day with what we can do.
